None of this precision would be achievable without the CMS Phase-2 upgrade, completed in late 2024 at a cost of approximately €220 million. For experimental physicists, the Run 4 results create a genuinely uncomfortable situation. The case for a Future Circular Collider (FCC-ee), which has been partly argued on the need to pursue BSM physics suggested by the g-2 anomaly, now has a softer empirical foundation. The honest question hanging over everything right now is whether the remaining tensions — the 2.9-sigma g-2 discrepancy, the R(K*) excess, the unresolved W mass story — are the dim edges of something genuinely new, or whether they're a map of our theoretical blind spots. That's not a rhetorical question. The answer is going to determine where billions in physics funding flow over the next decade, and which experiments get built and which don't.
