Our Approach
Errors are part of journalism. What separates responsible publications from the rest is how they handle mistakes. At Verodate, we correct errors promptly, transparently, and permanently.
Corrections Policy
When we publish an article containing a factual error, we:
- Correct the error in the original article. The corrected text stands as the primary record.
- Add a correction notice at the bottom of the article explaining what was wrong, what the correct information is, and the date of the correction.
- Do not delete articles after publication except in rare cases involving legal risk, safety, or source protection.
- Update headlines only when they materially misrepresent the content, with a note explaining the change.
Requesting a Correction
If you believe we have published something inaccurate, please email us with:
- The URL of the article.
- The specific claim you believe is incorrect.
- A source or reasoning for your correction.
We will respond within 48 hours with either a correction, a clarification, or an explanation of why we stand by the original reporting.
Ethics Principles
Our reporters and editors commit to:
- Minimize harm. We avoid publishing personal details that could endanger sources, victims, or bystanders.
- Respect privacy. Private citizens who are not public figures receive stronger privacy protections in our coverage.
- Avoid deception. Reporters do not misrepresent their identity to obtain information, except in rare cases with editor approval and where no other method is available.
- Decline gifts. Staff do not accept gifts, meals, travel, or special access from companies they cover beyond what is provided to the general public or press corps.
Retractions
In the rare case where an entire article is fundamentally wrong โ for example, if a central claim is unverifiable or a source is found to have fabricated information โ we issue a retraction. The retracted article remains visible with a clear retraction notice. We explain why.
Complaints
If a correction or response from our editors does not resolve your concern, you may escalate to our senior editor by email. We review every escalated complaint and respond in writing.
